Brackley Town v Coleshill Town u16

Brackley welcomed Coleshill Town to Soulden for a eagerly awaited league fixture following a lay off last weekend due to the half term break. We were keen for the players to learn some lessons following on from the last few games as we expressed how important the

warm up is physically/mentally & emphasised the need to get going from the 1st whistle as we have been slow starters of late. It was evident from the outset how our opponents were going to play today as they looked for long passes over the top for their strikers to run onto. Brackley coped quite well but found it difficult to get a foot hold in the game & to get their own passing game going. Half chances came & went for both sides but neither side could break the deadlock as the contrasting styles of play didnt help with the free flowing football we like to see. HT 0-0

The 2nd half started as the 1st half had finished until midway through when it was Brackley who took the lead when a miss hit free kick went under the wall & fooled everyone including the keeper trickling into the far corner of the goal. Unfortunately Coleshill hit straight back from the kick off as Brackley fell asleep. Coleshill seemed to just walk straight through the middle of us to tuck home 1-1. Within 5 minutes Coleshill went ahead through another defensive mistake allowing their striker to get in front of the man to tap home from close range. Unbelievable really to go behind in the manner we did so quickly after taking the lead. Brackley were then at sixes & sevens for quite a while before giving away a penalty for Coleshill to take the game away from us. However Rhys Allen pulled off a magnificent save from the spot to keep Brackley alive, & then getting to his feet quickly to stop the rebound with an outstretched leg. Brackley were unable to respond with an equaliser & unfortunately our unbeaten home run came to an end.
