Brackley Town u16's v Stourport Swift u16's

Both teams came into this game without a win so far this season & it was Brackley Town that dominated the first 20mins with some good interplay but unable to convert to take the lead with Issac Locke testing the keeper from outside the box & Tobie Bullivant pulling his shot just wide early on. Brackley were defending well restricting Stourport Swifts & looked in control.

Stourport were intent of kicking long from the keeper & as the half played out neither keeper was really tested with both sides blasting over the bar from distance. Brackley were still looking the much better passing team & looking the team that would take the lead to be honest. The half was almost done when Brackley gave away a needless free kick just outside the box & Stourport made us pay with a terrific free kick over the wall & dipping into the roof of the net with our keeper no chance of keeping it out. A very hard pill to swallow but loads of positives for the 2nd half. HT 0-1

Our HT team talk was how we needed to use the width better to get in behind but we needed to move the ball quicker & play around the back to get them off balance. We needed to continue to defend well & we needed everyone to drop a bit more so the midfield were underneath the goalkeepers kick, could we keep the ball better & create some decent chances, but everyone needed to switch on put a shift in & stay positive.

The start of the 2nd half was unbelievable 3 goals in 5 mins with Stourport punishing us for losing the ball from our own throw in & their player having the time & space to drive across the pitch in front of our back line with the midfield asleep. It has to be said the strike was superb & our keeper had no chance 0-2. A real uphill battle now with Brackley having it all to do. Brackley got themselves straight back in it from Keelan McConnan finishing off a really good passage of play making a terrific blindsided run in behind their defence with a lovely through ball to put him in with the keeper sprawled & in off the post. 1-2. Brackley got themselves back in it but were then made to pay for the lack of discipline as the midfield were caught napping again with a carbon copy of Stourport's second goal & another wonder strike gave our keeper absolutely no chance 1-3. Brackley did use the width better in the 2nd half with Tobie & Alex stretching the pitch well & we did try to play around the back line to get them off balance as we had discussed. Unfortunately we couldnt quite find the right final ball to get back in the game but when you switch off & get punished as we did today it was always going to be tough. I thought our rear guard played really well together, forming relationships with Archie & Omar the pick of the bunch.
