Brackley Town u16's v Tipton Town u16's

A beautiful morning for football, a low sun will set the scene for our game today with Brackley searching for their 1st win in the league with our visitors 2 points better off than us with 1 win in 6. Brackley dominated the early exchanges with some good football, playing out from the back, through the thirds & coming close on a couple of occasions with Tobie Bullivants chance the best of the bunch skimming the post & going agonisingly wide.

Tipton came with a game plan of playing route one football & were direct at every opportunity. Brackley coped pretty well but needed to drop a little more each time as the keepers kick was getting longer & longer with each one. Brackley were using the width & playing some nice stuff but unable to make Tipton pay with their linesman flagging offside more often than not. Brackley went behind when we were caught napping losing the ball in the midfield, & Tipton made us pay knocking the ball wide to their winger & with no pressure on the ball he lofted the ball into our box, their striker nipping inbetween our 2 centre halves with the slightest of touches to slide it past our keeper to give them the lead against the run of play. Unbelievable really but this seems to be how our season is going at present, how would the boys cope was my concern going behind again after dominating proceedings. Brackley however rallied really well continuing with their shape & continued with their passing football, but with the linesman continually flagging us offside you could see the players were getting frustrated & the parents too. Brackley did equalise when Tobie Bullivant was put through with a lovely passage of play, as he ran through he opened his body up beautifully to slot home across the keeper & into the bottom corner. We all thought it was a goal as Tobie had come from an onside position but the linesman had his flag up on the opposite side of the pitch & the goal dissallowed. With tempers flaired, parents asked to calm down, a Brackley player sent to the sin bin was not what we needed, we just needed to focus on getting ourselves back in the game & get back to what we had been doing so well. HT 0-1

Our HT team talk was about how Tipton was trying to hurt us & how we needed to work so much harder to combat that, we spoke about how well we were playing, how we could improve & how we should focus our frustrations in another way. We still had 40 mins to turn this around but had to play the first 4 mins with 10 men due to the sin bin in operation. Brackley worked hard in the 2nd half restricting Tipton & coped much better with the long ball. Brackley continued with their passing football & were testing their keeper at every opportunity with Dan Kingsley being so positive hitting one with his weakest foot from just outside the box but nothing would quite go our way. Brackley's pressure now forcing Tipton back & with a double corner from Alex Pestana gave Brackley their well deserved equaliser through Sol Grant who waited patiently outside the box, the ball dropped perfectly for him & his technique was 1st class striking the ball with everything spot on drilling the ball home into the bottom corner & their keeper well beaten. 1-1. Brackley's tails were up now & were battling for everything. Tipton were now being restricted & struggling to play their direct football & we were stretching them. Brackley were soon in front with an absolute belter from Tobie Bullivant jigging from one foot to another & smashing the ball home to finally get on the score sheet. 2-1 Brackley however were not finished & sealed victory with a minute to go when Keelan McConnan was put through to smash home to seal the 3 points & give Brackley their first league win of the season. 3-1

The lads were fantastic today a well deserved victory & a performance we should be really proud of.
