Brackley Town U16's v Wellingborough Whitworth Elite Blue u16's
Brackley Town surrendered 30 places in the league to meet today opponents & within the first 6 minutes had gifted the visitors a 2 goal cushion but both goals were preventable. The first came inside 2 minutes from a free kick that we didnt need to give away 25 yards out. Our keeper got in a great position to deal with it but didnt really jump & it squeezed in above his hand & under the bar. The second was a real calamity with no communication between the keeper, the defence & with no one dealing with the source had us on the back foot & a real uphill battle.
Wellingborough couldnt believe their luck & it looked like they would smash us out the park to be honest unbelievable start!!Messages were being given to the players on things we needed to do to stop Wellingborough playing & once the players began to understand we started to restrict them & we did get back in the game. We started to create but we needed more composure in the final third if we were ever going to get back in this, on the positive side our shape with & without the ball was looking better & we definitely grew into the half. HT 0-2
Our HT team talk gave us chance to recreate what we needed to do better & how we could hurt the opposition but we cant keep gifting goals like this & then chasing games. The next goal was critical & we needed to work so much harder if we were going to get back in the game.
Brackley continued in the 2nd half as they had left the field in the 1st & we were working hard to stop Wellingborough playing & on the whole it was working with Brackley restricting them & creating some good chances but unfortunately we couldnt make it count. Kia Bailey finally got one back for Brackley midway through the second half & now the game was back on. The next 10 mins were quite even but Brackley needed more if they were going to get anything out of the game. Wellingborough probably finished the strongest with Brackley running out of steam. Archie Hamp played an absolute blinder yet again & James Baker who came out quickly getting down low & spreading himself really well to keep us in the game. Unfortunately we couldnt quite grab the equaliser in the end as the game got really stretched & chances came & went for both sides. We didnt really use the width or switch the play as I wanted us to do in the 2nd half but a spirted performance from the whole team especially as we had given the opposition a two goal lead but many positives for the players to take away from today.
