Brackley Town Football Club – Player Approach Policy

This document sets out the policy, as laid down by the board of Brackley Town Football Club, relating to how the club expects its Youth Football officials, managers, and coaches to deal with approaches to players, whether these are approaches to bring players in or approaches from other clubs for our players.

All Brackley Town Football Club officials must follow the FA Seven Day Approach Rule whenever they intend to sign any player currently signed with another club. This applies even if any Brackley Town Football Club officials are approached by any player currently signed with another club.

Brackley Town Football Club will insist that any other club, at any level of football, also follows the FA Seven Day Approach Rule if they wish to speak to or approach any player currently signed with our club. Any person or club who disregards this ruling will be reported to the relevant authorities. Furthermore, Brackley Town Football Club will not accept any person connected with the club, players, parents, coaches or supporters making approaches on behalf of any other club.

In the majority of cases a decision to sign a player would not be made without a trial period involving the player attending some Brackley Town Football Club team training sessions (note: see the Player Trials Procedure procedure).

The relevant part of the FA Seven Day Approach Rule is given below for guidance, if at any time you are unsure or in any doubt please refer to the clubs Head Coach, General Manager, or Child Welfare Officer for clarification before making any approaches for players.

The FA Seven Day Approach Rule

“A manager wishing to speak to a player about joining their team, when the player is already registered with another team, MUST ask their club secretary to write to the secretary of the player’s current club giving seven days’ formal written notice of their intention to speak to the player. This written notice must be sent by special delivery or recorded post or a written acknowledgement otherwise obtained from the secretary or chairman of the player’s current club (fax or e-mails may be used provided a receipt of acknowledgement is also obtained).

Once this has been done, the player can be spoken to on or after the eighth day and the player must be registered on or before the 21st day. If the player declines your offer to leave their current team and join your team then you cannot approach them again in the same season (the FA season is from 1st July to 31st May).”
