Well it was not to be Saturday so we have to put the Wembley dream on hold for another time but maybe it could be our turn for a promotion final win for a change....who knows? Kevin and the team did all they could to win the tie against Leyton Orient but missed chances and the rub of the green eventually cost us in the end. However that is not the end of our season and after a few days to get over the disappointment the squad will have the challenge of finishing in the top seven to ensure a play off place and finish as high as possible. We have 5 home games to come and it would be absolutely fantastic if as many of you as possible could get down to cheer the team on as the players were so grateful for the fantastic atmosphere created Saturday. If you can get to any of the away games as well that would be appreciated.
As you may have already read we do have some wonderful news for you and are delighted to announce that Kevin has agreed a new contract for the coming 2 seasons. He will also be speaking to the players over the coming weeks because whatever the outcome we want to hit the ground running next season, whether that be in the National League or the North division should we not achieve promotion. News of any developments will be announced on the website as they happen.
Turning to other news The Saints unfortunately have seen a downturn in form and have slipped to 4th in the League but a win away at Lydney Saturday kept them in touch with the leaders and they have Wantage to play twice and Brimscombe and Thrupp, the current leaders, to play at home the last game of the season. So all the support you can give the lads again will be appreciated as they strive to finish as high as possible.
The Player Development Academy continues to flourish but due to the growth of the section we are always in need of Coaches to help us. So if you know of anyone that feels they would be interested in joining us then please get them to contact our Head of the section Andy Thompson.
The younger age groups of our set up continue to develop in preparation for the step up to the Midland Junior Premier League and one remarkable success story for our younger section has been the growth of the Saturday Soccer School which this year produced 2 Under 7 teams and at the moment next season there is a possibility that we have the numbers for 4 teams. Well done to Mark Craddock and the Coaches for the hard work and time that goes in to administering this part.
The Saints Community Project just seems to go from strength to strength thanks to Kim and her helpers. Numbers seem to be growing and I know everyone enjoys the few hours when they can get out and socialise with new friends and acquaintances they meet. So come on down any Wednesday from 10 till 12 I know you will be more than welcome and the staff will ensure you are not left out on your own as it may be a big step to take for some.
One piece of sad news has seen the end of a 45+ years Bingo sessions that have been held every Wednesday evening in the Women's Institute. Dwindling numbers and the commitment required to keep it going unfortunately like lots of other things is just not there. We cannot thank Rod Bush and Dawn Bodily enough for all the commitment they have put in over this time making lots of friends and having many memories to treasure. I personally have known them from the time they started this and cannot thank them enough. We do however have to move on and one upshot is that we are going to try and run at The Saints Community Project a couple of games of bingo on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month.
As announced earlier we are hoping to make some major improvements to the ground and facilities over the coming months and as discussions and events progress we hope they will be in place for the start of next season.
Thank you to all our supporters, staff. coaches, helpers and everyone involved in whatever capacity for all you do and now again it's time to move onwards and upwards.
