Whittington u16's v Brackley Town u16's

Brackley travelled to Lichfield on another blustery morning to take on a very well drilled Whittinton team. Both sides played some good football & both sides were composed playing out from the back & through the thirds. The shape was excellent from both teams & a real treat to watch. It was Brackley that created the better of the chances in the first half & limited Whittington with some fantastic defensive work from Lloyd Offord & Connor Brunton in particular. Brackley should of broken the deadlock before half time when Eniola was

through but blasted the ball at the keeper rather than just slotting it home, other missed chances may cost us but Brackley looked comfortable & edged the first half but with the score at 0-0 it was still anyone's game.

The second half started  just as the first half had done with both sides keeping the ball & playing good football. Whittington had clearly been working on getting the ball in behind but Brackley's defence were solid & closed the door. The opening goal came from an error when Brackley were caught on the ball with the full back in possession inside the Whittington half. They nicked the ball spotted the space in behind & we were pulled out of shape for the first time in the game & unfortunately punished as the ball was squeezed home & Brackley found themselves 1-0 down. Brackley continued to be patient knocking the ball around & got their reward when Luca was put through, he battled to get the ball down before knocking off 2 or 3 defenders to equalise 1-1 game on. Unfortunately that ended Luca's game as he was injured as he scored. Brackley however had their tails up & took the lead when Kia worked his socks off to squeeze the defender take the ball off him & crossed for CJ who hit the back of the net with a neat little finish 1-2. Brackley now had the lead & their game management was coming into good effect as they sealed the victory when Eniola turned the last defender, used his upper body strength as the keeper rushed out & tried to body check him, kept his composure to fire home & give Brackley all 3 points 1-3. Brackley were excellent today, the shape & discipline was there for all to see & this was maintained for the entire game. Everyone was terrific today from front to back with a real solid team performance. Well done lads an excellent morning of football.
