It has been a while since I last wrote some words, so there is a lot to talk about.
A good starting point would be the weekend's result against high-flying Stockport County. Stockport have been on an amazing run, 23 games unbeaten at any level is an incredible achievement and I am sure they will go close for the title this year. We knew it would be a tough game, but we have also been on a great run ourselves, so we were confident. The conditions were very windy and the pitch difficult, but sometimes to be successful you have to win "ugly" and we managed to do that. A special mention to Danny Lewis for some fantastic saves.
I think as a group you can see a noticeable difference between the playing group at the start of the season to where we are now. In the last few weeks we have travelled up North and picked up away wins at Darlington and Blyth, which again shows a steeliness we may have been missing at the earlier stages of the season.
To move on to talk about some of the players, obviously Carl Baker has now been with us for some time, and his addition has made a real impact. He is a fantastic player and a really humble, modest person, who we can all learn from, myself included. It is great to have Connor Hall back in the team after some time out, he has settled in nicely and has hit some form.
Our younger players such as Lee and Lowey have also made great strides over the last few months. Lee is crucial to the way we play, and he now demands a consistency within his performances from himself, and he now needs to aim for 25+ goals for the season. When I arrived Matt Lowe was in and out the team and he was not content with that. He has found a consistency also, and his end product has improved significantly this season. This being said, it is great for him to great the recognition of being selected for the England C contingency squad. I am sure if he keeps his standards as high as they have been he will be selected for the main squad very soon. Both lads have bright futures, and hopefully as their captain I can guide them and help them grow as players and people moving forward.
The gaffer recently signed a two year deal. It shows the faith the club have in him, he has brought success to the club in a short period of time. I am sure, he will be looking to make plans with his playing squad some time soon for next season, but for now we are all focused on the remaining games of this season. The players were taken through the club’s ground improvement plans, which is also very exciting news.
On a personal note, I feel fit, strong and healthy and have a real bounce in my step at the minute. I hope to finish the season strong and maintain my own high standards and demand them from my team mates and lead us to a strong finish.
Finally, thanks for your continued support. The players appreciate it as ever. ‘Shall see you all soon.
