Brackley Town are delighted to announce the signing of highly-rated defender Jay Williams, 22, who joins the Saints for the 2023/24 season.
Jay joined Northampton Town's academy at 13 and rose through the ranks to make his first-team debut during their EFL Trophy tie against Wycombe Wanderers, featuring for the entire 90 minutes.
He made his league debut in a 5–0 away win to Macclesfield Town in October 2018. He then went on to play a vital part in the rest of that season racking up 14 appearances in total.
In November 2020, Williams signed for National League North club Kettering Town before he signed for League Two side Harrogate Town in January 2021.
Following his release from Harrogate, he signed for AFC Rushden & Diamonds in the Southern Premier Division Central, before he made a switch to then divisional rivals Banbury United in October 2021.
He has made 35 appearances for the Puritans, scoring 4 goals and he moves to St James Park in fine form.
Manager Gavin Cowan had this to say about his latest signing, “Jay is a real coup for us having had a brilliant season. We’ve managed to get ahead of a few others for his signature as he has really bought into what we want to do here. An excellent centre half, Jay also brings some versatility in other areas too!”
Subject to FA and National League approval.
Welcome back to St James Park Jay!
