Byrne makes Brackley return.

Brackley Town are delighted to announce that midfielder Shane Byrne has agreed to join the Saints upon the expiry of his contract at Kidderminster Harriers.

Shane needs no introduction to Brackley supporters having made over 220 appearances between 2016 and 2021, including a memorable day at Wembley on the 20th May 2018 when he played in vital part in the Saints FA Trophy win.

A highly respected midfielder and seen as one of the best in the league for many years making over 460 first team appearances in his career, Shane left St James Park for Boston United in 2021 and he once again became a fans favourite. He went on to play 52 times for the Pilgrims that season and was named in the National League North Team of the Season, which unfortunately ended with a play-off final defeat at York City.

He then joined Kidderminster Harriers, and he went on to captain the Harriers to a play-off final win against the Saints at St James Park in May 2023. Injuries hampered his season in the National League unfortunately and he now returns to Brackley Town to link up with Gavin Cowan and a few of his old Saints teammates.

Brackley Town manager Gavin Cowan had this to say about his latest new signing “Shane is a player that I have admired for some time, he brings a wealth of experience, character and leadership to the group and we all know what he can do when he’s on the pitch. He will thrive in the environment we have created I’m sure and we’re looking forward to him joining the squad next week!”

Welcome back to St James Park Shane!

*Subject to league and FA approval.
