This is the latest in our updates to keep supporters, the wider community and everyone involved in our Stand Together campaign to raise funds to support the re-build of the club-house fully abreast of the campaign and progress towards the ambitious target of raising £50k in 12 months.

 The Stand Together campaign had a real boost last week with Take-over Week at The Chequered Flag.  Thanks go to Jeanette who runs The Flag for allowing the campaign to “take-over” the pub as our venue for two big events.  Special thanks also to Andrew Bannard, “Banny”, who organised the events.

First, on Tuesday the pub was packed for Quiz Night.  With Banny at the mic it was a brilliant evening enjoyed by 18 quiz teams and raising over £140 for the fund to re-build our club-house.  Then on Saturday it was Race Night.  This was another successful event.  Despite the wet weather outside, inside everyone enjoyed eight races and an auction which together raised more than £800 on the night.

Earlier in the evening on Saturday a team of doughty volunteers withstood awful weather of wind and rain to staff a stall at the town fireworks selling merchandise, largely hats and scarves, and collecting donations.  This raised the further sum of £203 and gave the campaign further presence across the wider community.  Everyone is still drying out but huge thanks to the team.

On Sunday Andy Thompson and the junior coaching team put on a mini-tournament with a share of the proceeds going to the Stand Together campaign.  The event was very well attended showing again the appetite for junior football in the area and with some teams travelling considerable distances to take part on our AGP.  Lots of parents and grandparents enjoyed the event with coffee and bacon rolls the order of the morning.  This will make a further contribution to the campaign funds once the entry fees and car parking donations have been counted up.

Local primary schools have been terrific.  In particular, the children of Bracken Leas and Waynflete Infants have raised over £500 between them for the campaign and had great fun in the process wearing football shirts to school and getting involved. This is greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Two further strands to the fund-raising campaign are now up and running.  We have a Christmas calendar in preparation that will be on sale soon and we hope will make a nice festive gift.  We hope to announce further details shortly.  And we have now launched Buy a Brick.  Thanks go to Brian Martin for his work in getting this underway with over 60 bricks sold already.  For £25 a single brick, or £50 for a double brick, a name and an accompanying message can be inscribed and eventually the bricks will be incorporated into the construction of the new clubhouse.  The current plan is that they will form part of the new bar area and will thus be lasting recognition to supporters who have helped the club rise again after the fire of June 2019.  Bricks can be purchased on-line via the club website or in person at home games from Brian or another member of the team.

We have needed to postpone the Fun Run originally planned for early December.  This is because of other running events locally on that weekend and because the logistics and health and safety requirements are more complex than one might imagine.

A further social event for your diary is Rod’s Prize Bingo.  This takes place on Friday 29 November.  This Christmas special event will be held at the Cricket Club with eyes down at 7.15pm.  Do come along and join in the fun!


We are now 3 months into the campaign.  It is clear that fund-raising is far from easy.  We knew this of course and so it is proving.  But real progress has been made and the current running total raised is over £7000.  This represents a terrific effort from lots of people and literally hundreds of supporters and people in the town who wish the club well and want to support the re-building of the clubhouse.  Thank you to every single person who has come along to one of the events or contributed even a few coins when we come round at games shaking the bucket.
