Match Report - Truro City 0-2 Brackley Town - FA Cup 2nd Round Qualifying

A good day in the Cornish Sunshine

A strange FA Cup draw saw Brackley drawn away to Truro City, the second longest (beaten only by 4 miles) second qualifying round match in history. So a road diversion would place us at the longest trip at this stage ever!

Glorious West Country sunshine greeted the team and supporters, as a mixture of those travelling on the day and others choosing to use the weekend as a mini break met at the brand new Truro City Stadium. Initially the long trip seemed to have an effect as both sides took some time to settle, but once the Saints found their rhythm they were irrepressible.

Attack after attack came to fruition in the 19th minute as Tommy O’Sullivan robbed Harrison for Truro who stumbled on a poor pass and threaded a pass to Connor Hall who finished in fine style across the ‘keeper and into the far corner.

Hall had another chance to increase the lead almost right away but was denied, before Morgan Roberts won the ball on the right and found Hall in the right place at the far post to make it two - nil.

Hall almost grabbed his hat-trick just after the half hour but his snap shot was well saved by the Truro goalkeeper.
The Saints had further chances including a clearance off the line after a scramble in the Truro box but had to settle for just the two goals at half time.

The second half resumed in the same fashion and Morgan Roberts should have scored when well placed but fired wide, before Zak Lilly found Gaz Dean with a good headed cross, the Captains header was expertly cleared under his crossbar by Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain to keep Truro in the game.

Roberts and Newton had further chances to increase the lead in a second half disrupted by Truro substitution’s as their Manager John Askey tried to get his side into a more attacking formation, by sacrificing his back line and going to just two at the back.

Scott Pollock had a great chance to finish the game completely in the 88th minute but his shot went narrowly past the post. It was a very accomplished performance after a very long trip and the thirty travelling supporters, of whom everyone was very appreciative of, went home as happy as Gavin Cowan.
