Barwell  0-7  Brackley Town     13 July 2019

Saints’ cup runneth over

Less than 48 hours after Thursday’s game against Oxford United, Kevin Wilkin made wholesale changes to the starting line-up for the trip to Southern League Premier Division Barwell and could be encouraged by the 3-0 half-time lead.  The introduction of further first team regulars brought further goals in a one-sided second period.

“It was a good work-out,” Wilkin said. “We scored some good goals from well worked moves, the triallists applied themselves well and it is pleasing to see a number of players getting on the score-sheet.  Hopefully both teams got something from the afternoon and we wish Barwell well for the season ahead.”

The hosts had early chances, twice Saints defenders clearing off the line, but Luke Fairlamb and Matt Lowe threatened for the visitors before one of the triallists put Brackley ahead, stooping to direct a header past the goalkeeper from Lowe’s cross.  Another triallist doubled the lead impressing with sharp reactions just before the interval but still with time for another goal from the same player in added time, a decisive finish from close range again.

Shane Byrne scored twice from the penalty spot, Lee Ndlovu found the net, put through one-on-one with the keeper by Ellis Myles, and Dan Holman got his first goal in a Saints shirt with a neat finish after strong work by Lowe.

Starting XI:   Lewis, Fairlamb, Murombedzi, Franklin, Walker, Lowe, 5 triallists.

Substitutes used:  Ndlovu, Dean, Armson, Langmead, Byrne, Holman.
