Oxford City  0-0  Brackley Town   26 Sept 2020

A tightly contested game ended goal-less before the managers, with next Saturday’s FA Cup ties in mind, agreed to give both teams penalty practice in an extended shoot-out that saw more shots miss and saved than hit the net although both goalkeepers converted neatly to round off a blustery afternoon at Marsh Lane.

Saints saw captain Gaz Dean limp off after just 11 minutes and struggled to find any fluency in the first half.  While City enjoyed the better of things, Zach McEachran testing Danny Lewis with a stinging effort, it was the visitors who came closet as first Jimmy Armson was denied by last ditch defending and then Wes York was thwarted by the keeper when through on goal.

There was better from Brackley in the second period although clear cut chances remained at a premium at both ends.

“It was a well fought game that will be useful preparation a week before the FA Cup ties,” Kevin Wilkin said.  “We lost Gaz early on and it took some time to regain our composure but we battled and did not concede at a crucial period in the game.  We have some important players hopefully coming back into the reckoning during the week for what will be a tough cup tie next Saturday.”

Starting XI:  Lewis, Miles, Walker, Byrne, Flowers, Dean, Lowe, Murombedzi, Triallist, York, Armson.
