Guiseley 1-3 Brackley Town 5 Dec 2020
Determined Saints earn vital 3 points
A dour first half suggested none of the goal action to follow in the second period as Saints came from a goal behind to pick up only a second win of the season.
Gaz Dean’s towering header brought a save from Guiseley keeper Brad Wade and Lebru Mbeka fired close for the hosts in rare moments of goal threat before the half-time interval. Kevin Wilkin’s side started the second half brightly, substitute Matt Lowe’s close range shot beaten away, but it was Guiseley who took a 69th minute lead when Mbeka’s fierce effort found the net as a free-kick was not cleared.
But Saints were behind for only 4 minutes, Shane Byrne the scorer, his second of the season, as Jimmy Armson’s long range pass found Lee Ndlovu who picked out the run of Byrne through the middle and Byrne produced a smart finish to level things up.
Just when it looked as if the game was heading to another draw for Brackley, Ethan Coleman scored direct from a free-kick after Ndlovu was fouled, Coleman’s first Brackley goal and such an important one coming in the last minute of normal time. Wes York had time for a third in added time finishing emphatically having intercepted cleverly and driven towards goal.
The win moves Saints four places up the table ahead of Tuesday evening’s game against Spennymoor who also won 3-1.
