Brackley Town 1-0 Spennymoor Town 12 Dec 2020
Late, Late Lowe Show
Matt Lowe thought he had scored on 80 minutes to break the deadlock but saw his effort ruled out before hitting a sweet winner in the 90th minute to give his side back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
“It was a really good, solid performance,” Kevin Wilkin said. “We had the two best moments and overall we deserved it. We stuck to our guns. I am delighted for Matt to come up with a big moment and it is only fitting that a finish like that is what divides the teams at the end of the day.”
Spennymoor top scorer Glen Taylor’s header tested Danny Lewis in just the 10th minute and Jimmy Armson’s shot was blocked on the line as the teams rather cancelled each other out in a game of few chances.
But Lowe had the ball in the Spennymoor net after keeper Dale Eve and a defender impeded each other to leave Lowe with the opportunity to slide the ball over the line from an angle only for the referee to disallow it much to Saints’ frustration and that of the supporters who had returned for the first time in 9 months.
But Lowe was not to be denied. In the final minute Reiss McNally’s cross was only partly cleared and Lowe found a fierce finish to win the game and bring Saints a first home win in the league.
“It felt fantastic to have supporters back,” Wilkin added. “I can’t say enough how much I enjoyed having that feeling again and sharing moments with people in the ground. It felt great and I am looking forward to Saturday now and let’s see if we can put on another performance and move on again.”
