Brackley Town 1-0 Hanley Town 5 Oct 2021
Tight tussle sees Saints through to next round
Another well contested cup tie saw Brackley come out on top courtesy of Lee Ndlovu’s 23rd minute close range header. Although Saints enjoyed good possession they could not find a second goal and so the tie remained in the balance until the last. In truth neither keeper had too many saves to make and Hanley acquitted themselves in a manner that belied their Midland League status.
“Credit to Hanley who took it to the wire,” Kevin Wilkin said. “I am pleased to get through but disappointed that we failed to test the keeper enough in either game.”
Josh Green’s cross flashed across the face of the home goal and Matt Lowe fired over when well placed in early exchanges before Ndlovu found the net after fine work by Ellis Myles driving into the penalty area.
In the second half Lowe was again wide of the target and after Lowe and Ndlovu combined superbly to create the opening Ndlovu could not test the keeper.
Late on, substitute Kyle Stubbs stung the fingers of Danny Lewis but it is the home side that goes on to play Guiseley in the 4th qualifying round.
