Brackley Town  1-1  Guiseley   FAC 4Q  16 Oct 2021

Tight tie sets up Tuesday night replay

Both teams earned their place in the first round draw after a well contested cup tie that neither did quite enough to deserve the win.

The home side started well, Guiseley keeper Luke Jackson saving from Shep Murombedzi and Wes York firing wide.  Lee Ndlovu opened the scoring with a cool finish on 25 minutes put through by Twariq Yusuf for his sixth goal of the season.

The goal brought a strong response from Guiseley who built a period of pressure on Danny Lewis’ goal and The Lions deservedly found the equaliser on 39 minutes.  Jake Hull neatly found the corner after Saints failed to clear from a corner.

The second half was set up for one side to seize the initiative and see themselves through but neither could grasp the moment.  Brackley enjoyed the better of things, Ellis Myles seeing his fine effort tipped over by Jackson and Murombedzi shooting just over.

But it was the visitors who almost snatched victory in added time as substitute Bailey Thompson brought a sharp save at full stretch from Lewis to send the tie to a replay.

“The performance was solid and certainly defensively but going forwards we could have asked one or two more questions in their final third but overall it was probably a fair result between the two sides,” was Kevin Wilkin’s verdict.  “They had some good moments.  They are a good side and a difficult side to overcome.  We have another chance in the replay on Tuesday.”
