Curzon Ashton  1-1  Brackley Town   15/9/18

Saints have that sinking feeling again

Saints departed Curzon Ashton with a valuable away point but will rue another missed opportunity to collect all three points.

A dominant first half performance and Jimmy Armson’s 5th goal of the season saw Kevin Wilkin’s side go in at the break with a one goal lead before they rather lost their way in a more even second half that saw the home side convert a rare, late chance to earn only their second home point of the season.

Matt Lowe’s fine early effort stung the fingers of keeper Cameron Mason who tipped over and Shane Byrne struck his free-kick from 25 yards just wide of Mason’s left-hand post before Armson put his side in front in the 33rd minute.  Good work by Luke Fairlamb was finished smartly by Armson turning the ball into the net first time with his left foot.

Moments before going ahead Saints had almost fallen behind as a defensive lapse presented Alex Samizadeh with a scoring chance but his shot found only the junction of bar and post in a let-off for Brackley.

Fairlamb’s cross presented Lee Ndlovu with a scoring opportunity just before the break but his header flashed wide when a two goal, half-time advantage would have been the least that the visitors’ passing and patient build-up play warranted.

Brackley started after the interval as they had left off, Ndlovu controlling the ball well under pressure before firing in a fierce effort that was touched over by Mason.  Minutes later it was Mason again foiling Ndlovu as the striker bore down on goal.

But trailing by just the single goal The Nash gradually forced themselves back into the game and on 80 minutes created a first clear-cut chance and they took it.  Connor Hughes found space on the right to put in a deep cross that was swept in by Oli Crankshaw scoring on successive Saturdays.

Saints worked hard in the remaining minutes to find the winner but Curzon’s tails were up and they held out to share the points.
