York City 0-0 Brackley Town 17 Oct 2020
Impressive Saints on top
Goal-less draws don’t come much better than this contest at a deserted Bootham Crescent and it was the home side grateful for the point on the final whistle. An even first half gave way to a second 45 minutes dominated by the visitors and only fine goal-keeping by man of the match Peter Jameson kept York in the game.
“We were strong and organised and looked back to where we are used to being especially with a terrific second half performance”, Kevin Wilkin said. “It was a really solid performance and we are disappointed not to have taken all three points.”
Danny Lewis pulled off a fine first half save from York’s Jake Cassidy to keep the scores level as both sides enjoyed good moments in a tight first period before Saints took over after the break creating a host of chances but unable to get the ball past the outstanding Jameson.
Lee Ndlovu and Wes York were denied in quick succession, Jimmy Armson was thwarted twice and late on substitute Ash Chambers conjured a fine moment cutting inside to curl his shot just wide. Inbetween York had two chances as Michael Woods fired over when well placed and Cassidy’s header struck the cross-bar but otherwise York were on the back-foot in the face of wave after wave of attacking play from Wilkin’s men in an away performance that deserved more than the single point.
“The chances came and went, came and went, and they had a good chance also when they broke away but with the opportunities we had, the game should have been put to bed. We’ve shipped some goals in recent games which is uncharacteristic of us so getting our captain back today gives everybody a lift, he’s a major player for us and was a rock for us at the back. And getting Ash back into the fold also gives everybody a lift.”
