Brackley Town 5-1 Marske United FAC Q4 24 Oct 2020
Marske United’s unbeaten start to the season ended as Brackley hit five to move into the first round draw. Marske have never reached the first round proper and their hopes were extinguished at St James Park.
Saints were missing Danny Lewis through injury and Gaz Dean was a late withdrawal. Kevin Wilkin chose to partner Harry Flowers with Ethan Coleman in defence and Tre Mitford up front with Lee Ndlovu.
The visitors gave the hosts a scare taking a 7th minute lead as Saints’ defence went missing to leave Matt Tymon with the easiest of finishes.
But Brackley were level within ten minutes as Tre Mitford struck his shot sweetly to beat keeper Ryan Catterick low to his left.
Kevin Wilkin’s side went ahead on 24 minutes as Lee Ndlovu recovered his footing, when the chance appeared to have passed, to fire in off the cross-bar for his first goal of the season. The Brackley striker doubled his tally on the half hour rounding Catterick to roll the ball into the net to give his side a 3-1 half-time lead. Ash Chambers’ fierce shot flashed just wide as the home side pressed to extend their lead.
A fine run by Matt Lowe shrugging off challenges and driving into the penalty area ended by picking out Tre Mitford who finished neatly for his second goal of the game on his fist full appearance.
Substitute Jimmy Armson added a fifth goal to ensure there would be no way back for The Seasiders.
“Of course it’s pleasing to be through to the next round because it’s an exciting competition,” Wilkin said. “We’d like to draw a big club at home but we’ve had some good fortune along the way with a bye and home draws so let’s see what comes out of the hat next.”
