Alfreton Town  0-2  Brackley Town  10 Nov 2020

First away goals earn first win

Kevin Wilkin’s side scored the first away goals of the season to earn a deserved first league win with a goal in each half.  Gaz Dean, Glenn Walker and new signing Jordan Cullinane-Liburd started with Ali Worby continuing in goal.

A quiet first half of few chances at either end brought Saints a one goal advantage from Tre Mitford’s 42nd minute headed goal from Walker’s pinpoint cross, Mitford planting his header beyond keeper George Willis.

Brackley stepped it up after the break and doubled the lead when Shane Byrne scored direct from a corner, the ball finding the net off the under-side of the bar.  Willis was under renewed pressure as Lee Ndlovu’s cross was scrambled away and Byrne and Matt Lowe combined well inside the penalty area.

Worby’s goal was rarely threatened but the keeper pulled off a fine save low to his right in the final moments of the game to record a clean sheet.  The three points move Saints up to 15th in the league table with games in hand ahead of the long trip to Gateshead on Saturday and visit of Kidderminster Harriers to St James Park next Tuesday.
