Gateshead 2-2 Brackley Town 14 Nov 2020
Impressive come-back earns point
Two late goals from Saints’ feared front two earned a deserved point as Brackley battled back at The International Stadium, Gateshead.
Macauley Langstaff prodded his team ahead after 19 minutes in a messy goal and Greg Olley doubled the lead on the hour from a break-away on a day when it looked as if Brackley’s bogey team would come out on top in a tight game once again.
Lee Ndlovu’s header from Glenn Walker’s cross had hit the bar and only VAR could decide whether it had bounced over the line and as Saints pressed for a second half goal Gaz Dean’s header again hit the woodwork as it seemed Saints’ luck was out.
But Tre Mitford grabbed his fifth goal in four games rifling his shot into the roof of the net as a corner was not cleared after 86 minutes and four minutes later Ndlovu headed the equaliser from Ethan Coleman’s cross. Saints were only denied an added time winner by the woodwork in what would have been a dramatic turnaround.
A valuable away point was the least that the spirited performance of Kevin Wilkin’s side warranted ahead of back-to-back home games against Kidderminster Harriers in midweek and Chester next Saturday.
