Brackley Town 2-1 Blyth Spartans 12 Dec 2020
Saints record third successive win
Blyth were unable to halt a five game losing streak while Saints recorded a third successive win in a game that rarely hit the heights.
All of the goals came in the first half. Kevin Wilkin’s side took a 6th minute lead when Shane Byrne converted a penalty after a clumsy foul on Jordan Cullinane-Liburd. But Blyth found the equaliser following lax defending on 20 minutes, JJ O’Donnell finishing smartly from close range.
Brackley took the lead into the break courtesy of Lee Ndlovu’s spectacular finish on 44 minutes after a goal-mouth scramble from a corner.
The home side dominated the early stages of the second half without extending their lead. Matt Lowe set up a chance for Ndlovu, laying the ball across the face of goal, but the final touch was missing and Byrne was wide from substitute Shep Murombedzi’s pass as Saints laboured to seal the win.
The visitors rarely threatened Danny Lewis’ goal and went down to ten men on 77 minutes when Rhys Evans received a second yellow card. The home side also lost a player when Reiss McNally received two cards, in both cases the players can feel harshly treated.
The result lifts Brackley into 9th place while Blyth remain rooted to bottom spot.
