Brackley Town 3-2  Royston Town    16 Dec 2020

Saints through in exciting cup tie

Brackley progressed to the 3rd round of the FA Trophy with a midweek win over Step 3 Royston Town in an exciting game of goals and attacking play at both ends.

“We knew it would be a tough game,” Kevin Wilkin said.  “They have good players in their team and play open and expansive football.  Credit to them because they made a real game of it.  Overall I felt we deserved the win.  We had the better chances and the better moments and we are delighted to be through.”

Ashley Chambers put his side into a first minute lead heading in smartly from Shane Byrne’s near post corner and it was Byrne who doubled the lead on 17 minutes through a deflected shot.

Royston hit back to reduce the deficit on 22 minutes as Brandon Adams produced a sharp finish after Taylor Parr’s long through ball.

Chances at both ends failed to alter the score-line at the break but The Crows were level on 47 minutes as Spyros Mentis made no mistake in punishing lax defending.

Within five minutes Saints were ahead again as Chambers got his second goal of the game scrambling the ball over the line after good work by Wes York.  Keeper Joe Welch saved brilliantly from Shep Murombedzi’s fierce effort and the ever willing Tre Mitford stung the hands of Welch late on as Saints saw out the final moments to set up a trip to National League Chesterfield on Saturday.

Brackley Town  2-1  Blyth Spartans  12 Dec 2020

Saints record third successive win

Blyth were unable to halt a five game losing streak while Saints recorded a third successive win in a game that rarely hit the heights.

All of the goals came in the first half.  Kevin Wilkin’s side took a 6th minute lead when Shane Byrne converted a penalty after a clumsy foul on Jordan Cullinane-Liburd.  But Blyth found the equaliser following lax defending on 20 minutes, JJ O’Donnell finishing smartly from close range.

Brackley Town 1-0  Spennymoor Town    12 Dec 2020

Late, Late Lowe Show

Matt Lowe thought he had scored on 80 minutes to break the deadlock but saw his effort ruled out before hitting a sweet winner in the 90th minute to give his side back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Guiseley  1-3  Brackley Town    5 Dec 2020

Determined Saints earn vital 3 points

A dour first half suggested none of the goal action to follow in the second period as Saints came from a goal behind to pick up only a second win of the season.

Gaz Dean’s towering header brought a save from Guiseley keeper Brad Wade and Lebru Mbeka fired close for the hosts in rare moments of goal threat before the half-time interval.  Kevin Wilkin’s side started the second half brightly, substitute Matt Lowe’s close range shot beaten away, but it was Guiseley who took a 69th minute lead when Mbeka’s fierce effort found the net as a free-kick was not cleared.
