Weekly club update:  Sat 17 April

It has been a week of plenty of behind-the-scenes activity including completion of major maintenance works on the St James Park pitch.

National League

At the National League, Mark Ives’ appointment as General Manager has been made permanent having joined from a role at the FA in January on a temporary basis.  Over the past few months we have worked well with Mark and found him approachable and helpful so we welcome this news.

The move to call an Extraordinary General Meeting of the league to debate a vote of no confidence in the board and its chairman gained sufficient votes but those involved have not yet decided to trigger the meeting.  A spokesperson for the group said, “We would hope the National League could just reflect a little bit on the fact there has been a lot of criticism of governance and just consider very carefully the people that are now very necessary.  There is a chairman and three board members needing replacing of which two were independent, who were very important to the board.  We are now openly calling for a consultative review of the whole operation and governance of the league which all clubs would be invited to take part in through representatives.”

Another “first”

Recent seasons have seen many “firsts” at the club and they just keep coming!  A small group of enthusiastic supporters will be publishing a book about the club.  Currently in draft form with a working title of “From Whippets to Wembley” the 150 page volume will feature photographs, many in colour, a club history and plenty of anecdotes and fascinating stories from down the years that are sure to interest everybody with an interest in Brackley Town Football Club.  We believe that this will be the first and certainly most authoritative book about the club.  The authors will be seeking patrons whose support will aid the publication of the book so look out for an opportunity to see your name or your company’s name in print and supporting another club “first”.
