Club statement: 27 April 2021
In line with other clubs all the way across the football pyramid from the Premier League through the Non-League System, Brackley Town FC supports a black-out of social media from 3pm Friday 30 April until 11.59pm Monday 3 May in solidarity with players, officials and fans who have suffered on-line hate and discriminatory abuse. We stand with those who say “there is no place for this in the game or in society and it must stop”.
Consequently everybody associated with the club is asked not to post on-line messages through social media during this period. We call on the authorities and social media outlets to work together to stop on-line abuse in the game.
The Football Association in conjunction with the Premier League, FA Women’s Super League, EFL, Women’s Championship, LMA, PGOL and Kick It Out, among others, have said: “The boycott shows English football coming together to emphasise that social media companies must do more to eradicate on-line hate, while highlighting the importance of educating people in the on-going fight against discrimination.”
