Weekly club update: Sat 29 May
With furniture being installed in The Venue and the commemorative bricks bought by supporters being incorporated into the building everything is coming together in time for the 22 June community day when everyone is invited to visit to between 9am and 5pm for a first view of the new facilities. The mayor will be cutting the ribbon during the morning and Brackley Community Radio hopes to be broadcasting live from the club in the afternoon.
Fans’ favourite Matt Lowe has signed new terms with the club for the coming season. Look out for further signings in the coming days.
Former Saint Ash Chambers has signed for NPL Premier Division side Buxton. We wish Ash well for next season.
Lots of former St James Park regulars will be appearing in a special game on 26 June to mark Glenn Walker reaching a club record 350 appearances. This special occasion will be great fun and will mark the return of supporters to SJP and a first visit for many to The Venue. Look out for ticket details soon.
... and a pre-season friendly with Northampton Town will bring The Cobblers to SJP on the evening of Tuesday 27 July. This completes the line-up of seven pre-season games commencing with Corby Town's visit on 13 July.
An Extraordinary General Meeting of the National League was held on Wednesday. Sufficient clubs supported the move to call the meeting to consider a single motion of no confidence in the chairman and the board. The motion was defeated but chairman Brian Barwick had already announced his resignation in the summer and there are several vacancies on the board following resignations.
Key dates for the league season have been announced. The season is scheduled to kick off on Saturday 14 August with the final fixture due on 7 May. The play-off games culminate in semi-finals on 14/15 May and the final on Sunday 22 May so pencil these dates into diaries now!
The National League occupies Steps 1 and 2 of the non-league pyramid. Step 4 and below has been subject to a major re-structure with the club allocations announced last week. A further eighth division has been added into Step 4 and two additions bring the total at Step 5 to 16 while Step 6 is reduced from 20 to 17 clubs. There are lots of sideways moves as well as 20 promotions in a re-structure, long talked about but now brought to reality.
