Welcome to this week’s club update.

It has been a remarkable week in the continuing discussions around how the National League North season will be concluded with a midweek about-face turn that opened up again the prospect of play-offs to settle the second promotion spot.  This decision has since been confirmed so we prepare now for the play-offs with a place in National League just three wins away.  Matches are scheduled to be played in July once participating clubs are able to confirm compliance with the necessary testing regime and other arrangements.

The National League board announced on Wednesday that the final placings have now been decided using a system of unweighted points per game.  That system elevated King’s Lynn Town into top spot with York City dropping to second.  We swap places with Boston who finish third and we moved to fourth.  Altrincham, Chester and Gateshead fill the remaining play-off places as Spennymoor dropped out of the top seven placings.  Consequently King’s Lynn Town will be promoted to Step One.  We send our congratulations to Ian Culverhouse and his King’s Lynn team who enjoyed a remarkable first season in National League North.  We drew at home with the Linnets in August, a game in which we missed a last minute penalty, and never got to play the away game as the season was ended before we made the trip to The Walks, home of King’s Lynn Town.

The chairman spent all day on Thursday in discussions.  In his words, “The phone was red hot and I was re-charging the battery on the hour!”  The decision to hold play-offs to settle the second promotion spot was discussed at another round of meetings on Friday with detailed arrangements settled including protocols for testing.  All games will be behind closed doors.

There are some significant challenges to overcome for us and other clubs if the play-offs are to take place, not least logistics, testing, signing players, training, the cost and so on.  We expect to be in a position to announce more details shortly.

 

At St James Park this week we have seen the near complete demolition of the old clubhouse.  Once the rest of the rubble has been cleared the next task is installing the drainage.  So all in all great progress has been made in these early days of the project.

Putting the funding together to afford to re-build the clubhouse that we need has been a big challenge but all of the pieces are coming together now.  This week we received final confirmation from the Football Foundation of a substantial grant from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund.  We have secured £235,239 towards the clubhouse re-build which is clearly a huge help in putting together the funding for this project.  The insurance monies, club contribution and fund-raising efforts of the Stand Together campaign collectively make the project feasible and we now press on from demolition to re-build.  Watch this space …

One of the key aims of the The Stand Together campaign raising funds to support the clubhouse re-build is to sell engraved bricks that will form a commemorative wall inside the new building.  The total stands at 243 which is a great achievement – thank you to everyone who has contributed so far.  The group is trying to reach 300 bricks.  It will close the project shortly but wants to extend the opportunity for supporters to Buy a Brick until the end of July.  So there is still time to help reach the milestone of 300 bricks – if you have delayed buying a brick to have your name forever built into the fabric of the clubhouse or want to buy another one, please visit https://www.brackleytownfc.com/standtogether/buyabrick
