Saints travel to Barwell on Saturday for a second pre-season fixture in 48 hours following close behind Thursday evening's visit to St James Park of Oxford United.
Barwell play in the Southern League Premier Central division and are managed by former Brackley player Guy Hadland. Former SJP fans' favourite Eddie Nisevic is also part of the set-up at Barwell.
After Thursday's game against League One United Kevin Wilkin reflected positively on the first 90 minutes of action of the new season. The starting eleven played the first 55 minutes before a series of changes gave 17 players game time. Thierry Audel, Kelvin Langmead and Dan Holman all started, pulling on a Saints jersey for the first time, and Connor Franklin returned to the side following mid-season injury.
“It was a good work out,” Kevin Wilkin said. “They are a strong side and are already deep into their pre-season preparations and it was tough for us. We learned something from it and we won’t come up against a side like Oxford every week. I am delighted to see Connor back and I hope he can be a big player for us this season. The result is not the most important thing tonight clearly but we got minutes into players tonight and learned from it. We will mix it around for the Barwell game on Saturday. There was a good crowd here tonight and good atmosphere. A lot of work went on to get the ground ready and great credit to everyone for getting the game on.”
Saturday's game is a 3pm kick-off at Barwell's Kirkby Road ground.
