Darlington are the visitors to St James Park on Saturday in the National League North.
Saints come into the game seeking a first win in four league games and searching for the golden touch in front of goal. Strong performances against Chester and Spennymoor deserved more than two points but the visitors rode their luck and Saints have only themselves to blame, failing to convert excellent chances and missing a penalty in the Spennymoor game.
Despite inconsistent results, we sit in 9th place in what is a very tight league table after further mid-week games that saw Alfreton Town leap-frog above Kevin Wilkin’s side. Back-to-back wins for any one of half a dozen clubs would propel them into the mix at the top.
Visitors Darlington are currently 14th but just 2 points behind Saints. Home form has been the key for The Quakers with form on the road less impressive. The single away win so far came in the last game at Alfreton. Before that, the five away games yielded just a single point.
But Alun Armstrong’s team are in the middle of a terrific run of FA Cup success, drawing at League Two Walsall last weekend with a 96th minute equaliser having earlier led. The replay is on Wednesday with the winners taking on Oxford United in a second round home tie. Good luck to Darlington for the replay.
