Shane Byrne

Shane Byrne signed for the 2016-17 season from Nuneaton Town where he enjoyed a successful spell.

Shane started his career in Dublin and was part of the youth team that reached the quarter finals of the FA Youth Cup in the 2010–11 season. On the international transfer deadline day in 2011 Shane withdrew from the Republic of Ireland U19 squad in order to move on loan to Bury FC and made his professional début for Bury against Sheffield United on 3 September 2011. In October of that year he had his loan extended and made his FA Cup debut on November 12 in a 2–0 defeat to Crawley Town. On December 28 he again extended his loan at Bury until the end of January but his time at Bury was curtailed after picking up an ankle injury in a game at Colchester United.  Bury confirmed in August 2013 that he had been released from his contract by mutual consent and a few weeks later it was announced that he had returned to Ireland to join Bray Wanderers for an undisclosed fee.

Shane joined Corby Town in August 2014 from Bray Wanderers and was a member of the Southern Premier League Championship winning side.  In his first season at SJP Shane made an outstanding contribution to Kevin Wilkin’s side as they finished 7th in National League North, reaching the 2nd round of the FA Cup and the quarter finals of the FA Trophy. He made 52 appearances and scored four goals, his first a memorable finish against Darlington.

Shane has represented the Republic of Ireland both at U17 and U19.
