With several matches in the division postponed Saints have moved up to 3rd position in the league with their third win on the bounce. Saints will be delighted with the 3 points, no bookings and most of all a solid clean sheet. Given the conditions the game was full of good possession football and both sides came to terms with a St James pitch which was as wet as I have seen it.

Royal Wootton Bassett (2) Brackley Town Saints (5)

SAINTS: – Crowther, Middleton (D), Brock, March, Goddard, Hartley, Godfrey, Hammond, Stott, McConnell, Middleton (L).

SUBS NOT USED – Dowse

A thoroughly entertaining game given the conditions. It didn’t just rain it was absolutely lashing down for the whole 90 minutes. It was a huge credit to the RWB facilities, and particularly the pitch that the game could go ahead. Due to several absences as a result of work commitments, injuries, suspensions etc. manager Chris Hurley was required to shuffle his pack and introduced a couple of the under 18 squad to the starting line-up. They didn’t let him down. Saints were generally dominant in possession and very pleasing to the eye, however Bassett certainly had their moments particularly in the first 25 minutes of the second-half when they really pushed hard, knocking against the Saints door on a regular basis.

On a great night for a game of football Ardley and Saints served up a match full of good quality, good goals, good saves and all played in a great spirit. Ardley took the early initiative looking comfortable in possession and within a few minutes the impressive Alex Wheeler burst through on the left and smashed a shot into the side netting.

Hellenic League Premier division
Shrivenham FC (1) Brackley Town Saints (0)

SAINTS: – Crowther, Gabbidon, Brock, Middleton D, March, Hartley (Stott 67), Ball, Hammond, Knight, Godfrey Sherratt (61), Kille.

SUBS NOT USED – Middleton (L), Goddard

A disappointing defeat on the road for the Saints on an awful day weather wise. Shrivenham were faster out of the traps and in all honesty could have scored four or five times in an initial 25-minute spell where Saints seem to be completely odds with themselves. It was only a combination of good goalkeeping from Matt Crowther, dreadful finishing by Shrivenham and a little bit of lady luck that kept Saints in the game.
